After reading The Photograph as Contemporary Art by Charlotte Cotton, I began this analog series Not Betty. I was reading about Cindy Sherman, as well as other photographers, who taught me to appreciate photography as a fine art. So my project got me thinking about my name – Betty. When I think of the name Betty, I think of other famous Betty’s like Betty Grable, Betty Ford, Bette Davis, and Betty Boop.
It sounds so Americana.
I used paper wigs to transform myself into these iconic women, reviving and remaking an image into fine art.
So is this me?
