Artist Note #31 – Hyde Park Art Center and Han Kang

The book led me to think about my surroundings during my daily walks during the pandemic and make this piece:

Han Kang’s book stayed with me over the years, and I eventually made a triptych with the textile piece. They aren’t much to look at. My images may or may not feel as dark or seductive as her book, but it was my first experience back into self-portraiture and working with textile materials and photography. It had been a few years since I stood before the lens instead of standing behind the camera.

I’ve also got some exciting news to share. I’ll be participating in a group show at the Hyde Park Art Center, Ground Floor 2024, a biennial group show of recent MFA graduates in the Chicagoland area. Come see the show in December 2024 when it opens.
