- Japanese Colonization period in Korea (1910-1945)
- Korea Artista Proleta Federacio (KAPF) was established in August 1925 during the Japanese colonial era. Kim Bok-jin drafted the 1st Manifesto and was seen as the de facto leader of KAPF. (11)
- The title of the manifesto – “Draft for the Nahyeong (naked form) Manifesto” in 1927. Manifesto was seen as a “socialist art theory.” (emphasis on social not socialist) (11)
- minjung minsul = people’s art
- yangban = “two groups”, the highest social class of Choseon Dynasty (1392-1910) which consisted of civilian and military officials.
Women, Art, and Society by Whitney Chadwick
Two female artists part of the British Royal Academy in 1768 – Angelica Kauffmann and Mary Moser. However, Johann Zoffany painted The Academicians of the Royal Academy (1772), and the two female founding members were excluded from the painting. All the other male artists and male models existed in the painting. Well, they were painted as busts in the back of the room. (9)
